Fiesta de la Rama in Agaete

Agaete's August festival built around a rhythmic branch-carrying procession, believed to descend from pre-conquest Guanche rain rituals later absorbed into the feast of Our Lady of the Snows. Locals cut pine branches from the mountains, march them into town in a repetitive two-steps-forward dance, and finish by wading into the sea at Las Nieves beach.

Two lines of dancers advance and retreat through the streets of Agaete each August, every one of them shouldering a branch of pine or eucalyptus cut from the mountains above town, striking the ground in rhythm with a single repeated drumbeat.
