Murcia's autumn civic festival, confusingly named Fiestas de Primavera despite running each September, combines a traditional fairground with parades celebrating the region's farming heritage. Anchored by the opening Bando de la Huerta parade and the closing mock-funeral Entierro de la Sardina, it runs roughly two weeks, longer than most comparable Spanish ferias.
Murcia's autumn fair grew out of a religious festival dedicated to the Virgen de la Fuensanta, the city's patron, into a broader two-week programme now formally called the Fiestas de Primavera despite running each September, a naming quirk locals attribute to a historical calendar shift decades ago that stuck even after the dates themselves moved.
