Valladolid SEMINCI in Valladolid
Valladolid's international film week, running each October since 1956, is one of Spain's oldest and most respected festivals for auteur and world cinema. Its Golden Sheaf award and dense, walkable venue cluster in the historic centre have made it a favourite among cinephiles rather than industry or celebrity crowds.
SEMINCI opened in 1956 as a festival organised through the Catholic church's national film office, and its early decades focused on what was then called religious and moral cinema before the event gradually broadened into one of Spain's most respected showcases for auteur-driven world cinema.
