Munneswaram Chariot Festival in Chilaw/Munneswaram
Munneswaram Kovil's month-long annual festival in Chilaw features a chariot procession in which twin white bulls draw the deity's silk-draped chariot through the town, one ritual high point of a roughly twenty-eight day observance also including firewalking and water-cutting ceremonies at this Pancha Ishwaram Shiva temple.
Twin white bulls draw an elaborately draped chariot bearing the temple deity through the streets of Chilaw each year, the visual centerpiece of the roughly month-long annual festival held at the Sri Munneswaram Devasthanam, one of Sri Lanka's five Pancha Ishwaram Shiva temples.
