The story

Cinnamon Colomboscope in Colombo

Cinnamon Colomboscope, presented by EUNIC Sri Lanka and Cinnamon Hotels and Resorts, calls itself Sri Lanka's only multi-disciplinary arts festival, staging exhibitions, film, performance and digital media inside repurposed heritage buildings such as a former railway station and post office. Each edition since its early-2010s founding has built around a distinct curatorial theme, with local independent organisers taking over direction from 2017 onward.

Disused railway halls and a former post office have doubled as galleries for Cinnamon Colomboscope, described by organisers as Sri Lanka's only multi-disciplinary arts festival, blending visual art, film, performance and digital media within repurposed heritage buildings across Colombo.

What is special

The part that makes it specific.

01

The place changes

The festival's practice of exhibiting inside disused heritage infrastructure, including the former Colombo terminus railway station and the old General Post Office, gives Cinnamon Colomboscope a physical identity distinct from conventional gallery-based art festivals

02

The mystery stays covered

Its shift to local independent organisation from an earlier edition marked a deliberate move away from reliance on international institutional partners toward homegrown curatorial direction

03

The city starts moving

Editions built around specific themes, such as one exploring digital culture across South Asia and Europe with more than 50 international participants, show the festival's ambition to connect Sri Lankan contemporary art to global conversations
