Colombo Pride Festival in Colombo
Colombo Pride, running since 2005, is South Asia's largest Pride event, combining a week of film screenings, talks, and community events with a culminating public parade through the capital. Organized chiefly by Equal Ground, it campaigns for the repeal of colonial-era penal code sections criminalizing same-sex intimacy while celebrating Sri Lanka's LGBTIQ+ community.
Colombo Pride began in 2005 as a single small gathering organized by the LGBTIQ+ rights group Equal Ground, at a time when public visibility for queer Sri Lankans carried real personal risk.
