Gangaramaya Vesak Zone in Colombo
The Gangaramaya Vesak zone is a large, temple-organized lantern and pandal display centered on Gangaramaya Temple and the adjoining Beira Lake and Seema Malaka pavilion. Thousands of floating and hanging lanterns, plus massive illuminated pandals from state and private institutions, create one of Colombo's most concentrated Vesak displays, drawn together specifically at this single temple site rather than spread across the city.
Thousands of handcrafted lanterns float across Beira Lake each May as Gangaramaya Temple, Colombo's most visited Buddhist temple, transforms its grounds and the surrounding lakeside into what is widely regarded as the most elaborate single Vesak display in the capital.
