Vesak Galle in Galle

Galle marks Vesak, the holiest day in the Buddhist calendar, by draping its Dutch-era fort in paper lanterns and free-food dansal stalls. The full moon Poya commemorates the Buddha's birth, enlightenment, and death together, and Galle Fort's narrow streets fill with illuminated pandals, devotional songs, and processions to coastal temples like Rumassala.
