Kandy Esala Perahera in Kandy

The Kandy Esala Perahera is Sri Lanka's grandest Buddhist procession, held each July or August to honor the Sacred Tooth Relic housed at Kandy's Temple of the Tooth. Over ten nights, caparisoned tusker elephants, Kandyan drummers, fire-dancers, and the processions of four guardian-deity devales build to a spectacular final Randoli Perahera, followed by a water-cutting ceremony at the Mahaweli River.
