Darfur Cultural Festival in El Fasher/Nyala
A cultural festival historically associated with El Fasher and Nyala, intended to celebrate Darfur's diverse ethnic groups, including Fur, Zaghawa, Masalit and Rizeigat communities, and used in past years as a peacebuilding tool amid Darfur's long conflict.
Darfur is home to a genuinely diverse mix of ethnic communities, including the Fur, after whom the region is named, along with Zaghawa, Masalit, Rizeigat, and numerous other groups, some primarily farmers and others pastoralists herding camels or cattle across the region's arid and semi-arid land.
