Kordofan Gum Arabic Festival in El Obeid
An agricultural festival proposed for El Obeid, capital of North Kordofan, celebrating gum arabic, the resin of Acacia senegal and related trees for which Sudan supplies roughly seventy percent of world commercial demand.
Gum arabic, sometimes called gum sudani, is harvested from the trunks of Acacia senegal and related Vachellia seyal trees, most of it collected from wild or semi-wild stands across a belt of Sahelian land stretching from Senegal to Somalia, with Sudan the single largest global source, supplying roughly seventy percent of the world's commercial gum arabic.
