Suakin Heritage Revival Festival in Suakin
A heritage festival tied to the revival of Suakin, the ruined Ottoman-era coral-stone port city on Sudan's Red Sea coast, coinciding with real restoration efforts following a 2018 lease agreement between Sudan and Turkey.
Suakin was, in its medieval and Ottoman-era prime, considered among the finest ports on the Red Sea, its multi-story coral-block houses built in a distinctive vernacular style shared with other Ottoman Red Sea ports such as Jeddah in Arabia and Massawa in Eritrea.
