Goteborg Film Festival in Gothenburg
Launched on 8 February 1979 with just seventeen films, Goteborg Film Festival has grown into the largest film event in Scandinavia. Over ten days spanning late January into February, roughly 450 films from around 60 countries screen across Gothenburg's cinemas, led by the historic Draken theatre, drawing about 115,000 visitors each year.
Goteborg Film Festival began modestly on 8 February 1979, screening just seventeen films across three screens for around 3,000 visitors, a scale that today would barely fill a single festival evening.
