The story

Nordisk Panorama in Malmo

Nordisk Panorama Film Festival is the leading festival for Nordic short and documentary film, founded in 1990 and based in Malmo since 2013 after two decades of touring between host cities across the Nordic region. Held over six days each September, it screens around 100 short and documentary films from Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden, alongside industry events, the Forum and Market, aimed at producers, distributors and film professionals.

Nordisk Panorama Film Festival was founded in 1990 to give Nordic short film and documentary a dedicated regional platform at a time when such work often struggled to find audiences beyond national festival circuits.

What is special

The part that makes it specific.

01

The place changes

Nordisk Panorama's identity as a pan-Nordic rather than purely Swedish festival sets it apart: for its first 23 years the festival toured between host cities in Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden before settling permanently in Malmo in 2013, and its award categories, Best Nordic Documentary, Best Nordic Short Film and New Nordic Voice, still frame the festival's mission as representing the whole region rather than one national cinema

02

The mystery stays covered

Screenings spread beyond conventional cinemas into museums, libraries and clubs across Malmo, and the festival runs dedicated Forum and Market events that connect Nordic filmmakers directly with international producers, distributors and financiers, giving it an industry function well beyond public screenings alone
