CirkusMania Stockholm in Stockholm region

CirkusMania is Sweden's festival for circus as contemporary performing art, held each February across a dozen stages in the Stockholm region and produced from the Subtopia circus hub in Botkyrka. Its 2026 edition, the seventh, presented newly created Swedish circus works spanning do-it-yourself circus, stand-up-style circus, slow-paced physical theatre and hybrid multimedia performance, positioning contemporary circus as serious performing art rather than traditional big-top entertainment.

CirkusMania grew out of Sweden's contemporary circus scene, which has its institutional center at Subtopia in Botkyrka, a purpose-built hub for circus and performing arts just south of Stockholm that has helped establish contemporary circus, an art form built around acrobatics, object work and physical theatre rather than animals and traditional ring performance, as a recognized part of Sweden's cultural infrastructure.
