Klausjagen Küssnacht in Küssnacht

More than two hundred Iffelentraeger walk through Kuessnacht am Rigi's darkened streets on the eve of Saint Nicholas Day, wearing towering illuminated paper headdresses shaped like bishops' mitres, accompanied by cowbell-ringing Trychler and whip-cracking Geisslaechloepfer. The custom traces to older pre-Christian midwinter noise-making traditions later folded into the Saint Nicholas calendar. The town is also tied to the legend of Wilhelm Tell and the nearby Hohle Gasse.
