The story

Street Parade Zurich in Zurich

The Street Parade began in September 1992 as a small demonstration for love, peace and tolerance, when a Zurich student led about 1,000 dancers behind two music trucks along Lake Zurich. It has since grown into the world's largest technoparade, drawing roughly 900,000 to over a million people on the second Saturday of August each year. Decorated Lovemobiles carry sound systems and DJs along the lakeside route while crowds pack the surrounding streets.

In September 1992, a Zurich student named Marek Krynski organized a small demonstration for love, peace, freedom, generosity and tolerance, walking about 1,000 dancers behind two music-equipped floats known as Lovemobiles along the shore of Lake Zurich.

What is special

The part that makes it specific.

01

The place changes

The Street Parade's scale is almost unmatched in Europe, but its legal identity is what makes it unusual: because it remains classified as a political demonstration rather than a commercial festival, it has kept a low-barrier, open-street format since 1992 even as attendance grew past a million participants

02

The mystery stays covered

Dozens of Lovemobiles, elaborately sound-equipped floats, crawl along the lakeside route while international DJs play to a packed crowd, and a smaller counter-event, the Antiparade, runs the same day as a deliberate critique of the main parade's commercialization

03

The city starts moving

Few single-day events anywhere transform a city as completely as this one transforms Zurich each August
