Beigang Lantern Festival in Beigang
A Lantern Festival-period lighting and folk-art display in Beigang Township, Yunlin County, home to the historic Chaotian Temple, one of Taiwan's most important Mazu temples; town streets and temple grounds fill with illuminated lanterns and folk performances during the lunar new year season.
Beigang's religious calendar has long centered on Chaotian Temple, a Mazu temple established in the early eighteenth century that grew, over three centuries, into one of the most important pilgrimage sites in Taiwanese folk religion.
