Kaohsiung Spring Arts Festival in Kaohsiung
Each spring, from roughly March through May, Kaohsiung City stages a multi-venue performing arts festival spanning theater, dance, and music, presented across the city's cultural centers and public spaces. Timed to follow winter's Kaohsiung Lantern Festival Arts Festival, it anchors the city's cultural calendar in the months leading into summer.
Kaohsiung spent most of the twentieth century as Taiwan's principal industrial port, its economy built on shipbuilding, steel, and petrochemical processing rather than the arts.
