Taipei Golden Horse Film Festival in Taipei

The Taipei Golden Horse Film Festival and Awards, founded in 1962, is Taiwan's equivalent of the Academy Awards and one of the four major Chinese-language film honors alongside the Hong Kong Film Awards, Golden Rooster Awards and Hundred Flowers Awards. It is the only one of the four that qualifies winners for Oscar consideration, drawing submissions from Taiwan, Hong Kong, mainland China, Singapore, Malaysia and the wider Chinese-speaking diaspora each November or December in Taipei.

In 1962, Taiwan's Government Information Office established a film festival and awards ceremony intended to recognize excellence in Chinese-language cinema, a mission that has carried the Taipei Golden Horse Film Festival and Awards through more than six decades to its current status as one of the most prestigious film honors in the Chinese-speaking world.
