Taiwan LGBT Pride in Taipei
Taiwan Pride began in Taipei in 2003 with a few hundred participants and has grown into the largest LGBTQ pride parade in Asia, drawing well over 100,000 attendees in recent years each autumn, typically in late October; the event gained additional significance after Taiwan became the first place in Asia to legalize same-sex marriage in May 2019.
Taiwan's first pride event took place in Taipei in 2003, organized on a modest scale by local LGBTQ advocacy groups at a time when the island's broader political culture was still adjusting to the democratic reforms that had ended martial law only sixteen years earlier.
