The Yanshui Beehive Fireworks Festival, held in Tainan's Yanshui District around the Lunar New Year Lantern Festival, sends tens of thousands of bottle rockets exploding at ground level from towering wooden firework stands. Centered on Wumiao Temple, the overnight event began as a ritual to drive off plague and evil spirits and is now one of Taiwan's most physically intense folk festivals, drawing participants in full protective gear.

In Tainan's Yanshui District, the close of the Lunar New Year season brings not quiet lantern-lit strolls but a deliberate, roaring assault of fireworks fired directly into a crowd of willing participants.
