International Bagamoyo Arts Festival in Bagamoyo

The International Bagamoyo Arts Festival is the yearly showcase produced by TaSUBa, the Bagamoyo Arts and Cultural Institute, in the historic Swahili-German port town of Bagamoyo. Built on the legacy of the former Bagamoyo College of Arts and its resident Bagamoyo Players ensemble, the festival brings traditional and modern Tanzanian dance, drumming, drama, and visual art to a mixed local and international audience.

Bagamoyo was once significant enough to serve as the capital of German East Africa, a fishing and dhow-building town on the Tanzanian mainland coast whose harbor had already seen centuries of Swahili, Arab, and Indian Ocean trade before European colonizers arrived.
