Bangkok Yaowarat Vegetarian Festival in Bangkok
Bangkok's Yaowarat Vegetarian Festival, also called the Jae Festival or Nine Emperor Gods Festival, is a nine-to-ten-day Taoist observance held each October along Yaowarat Road. Participants abstain from meat and pungent vegetables such as garlic and onion, while more than a hundred food stalls sell vegetarian and vegan versions of Thai and Chinese dishes.
The Nine Emperor Gods Festival, known locally as the Jae Festival or Vegetarian Festival, is a Taoist observance practiced across Chinese communities in Southeast Asia, beginning on the eve of the ninth lunar month of the Chinese calendar and running for nine days and nights.
