Bangkok's largest Chinese New Year celebration takes over Yaowarat Road, the heart of the city's Chinatown established under King Rama I in 1782. Red lanterns, incense, lion and dragon dances, and hundreds of street-food vendors transform the district for several days around the lunar new year.

Yaowarat's history as Bangkok's Chinatown dates to 1782, when King Rama I established Bangkok as the new Siamese capital and relocated existing settlements to make way for the Grand Palace, granting Chinese merchant communities the Yaowarat area to resettle and continue trading.
