Akha Swing Festival Chiang Rai in Chiang Rai

Also known as Bo Chong Tu, the Akha Swing Festival is an annual late-August to September celebration held by Akha hill-tribe communities around Sam Yaek Akha village in Chiang Rai's Mae Fa Luang district. Marking the Akha New Year and honoring E-Um Sa Yae, a goddess of fertility and abundance, the festival centers on a large ceremonial swing alongside music, parades, and food.

The Akha are one of several hill-tribe peoples who settled across the mountains of northern Thailand, Myanmar, Laos, and southern China, and Chiang Rai province holds the largest concentration of Akha communities in Thailand.
