A week-long masked cultural festival in Banjul running from 25 December through 1 January, evolved from an older Hunting Festival tradition of costumed rival groups and now drawing an estimated 50,000 attendees representing nearly every major Gambian ethnic group alongside migrant communities from neighbouring countries.
Banjul Cultural Festival closes out the year each 25 December through 1 January, a week-long masked celebration that has run for more than 60 years, making it one of The Gambia's longest-standing cultural fixtures.
