Sukuta Dembadu Carnival and Cultural Festival in Sukuta
A Sukuta street procession and evening music jamboree, run by the Sanchaba Youth Development Association together with the Sukuta diaspora, celebrating Kombo culture through a daytime dance procession and a headline evening concert with well-known Gambian musicians performing to close out the two-part celebration each year.
Sukuta Dembadu Carnival and Cultural Festival began as an idea from cultural music figure Sam Jarju and fellow members of the Sukuta diaspora, staged by the Sanchaba Youth Development Association together with Sukutarians living abroad, and it was built as much around a development goal as a cultural one: a way for the diaspora community to reconnect and to discuss practical support for their hometown.
