Eid al-Adha Celebrations in Timor-Leste in Dili/Nationwide
Eid al-Adha in Timor-Leste centers on Dili's An-Nur Mosque, where the Coordinating Council of Islamic Organizations and the An-Nur Foundation organize prayers and the ritual sacrifice of livestock, with meat distributed to families in need. In a notably interfaith gesture, Timor-Leste's presidency and other government offices have donated animals for sacrifice, and President Jose Ramos-Horta issues public greetings calling for peace and human fraternity.
Eid al-Adha, the Islamic Festival of Sacrifice, is observed by Timor-Leste's Muslim minority each year on a date that shifts with the Islamic lunar calendar, most recently marked in the country on May 27 corresponding to 1447 AH.
