Festival Santissimo Corpo Cristo in Dili
Festa do Santissimo Corpo de Cristo, Corpus Christi, is a Catholic solemnity and national holiday in Timor-Leste marked in Dili by a formal procession from Balide's Immaculate Conception church to Nossa Senhora de Fatima Park in Lecidere, followed by a holy mass held each year.
Corpus Christi, known in Portuguese as Santissimo Corpo de Cristo, is one of the more visually striking observances on the Catholic liturgical calendar, built around public procession of the consecrated host as a declaration of belief in Christ's real presence in the Eucharist, a tradition with roots stretching back to medieval Europe and carried to Timor through centuries of Portuguese colonial and missionary presence.
