The story

Foire Internationale du Livre de Lome FI2L in Lome

The Foire Internationale du Livre de Lome, FI2L, is Togo's international book fair, held at the CETEF Togo 2000 exhibition center in the capital. Founded and promoted by writer-diplomat Steve Bodjona through his literary club Le Litteraire, the fair gathers Togolese and West African publishers, authors and readers for signings, literary cafes and panel discussions celebrating Francophone African literature.

The Foire Internationale du Livre de Lome, known by its French acronym FI2L, grew out of one man's effort to build a home for Togolese literature.

What is special

The part that makes it specific.

01

The place changes

FI2L stands out as one of the few dedicated international book fairs in Togo, giving Togolese literature a stage alongside regional Francophone African writing

02

The mystery stays covered

Its sixth edition, held in 2026, included a cafe litteraire session built around Ahmed Ayandedji's short-story collection Problemes d'adultes, exploring youth precarity and parental responsibility, showing how the fair pairs commercial book sales with substantive literary discussion

03

The city starts moving

Earlier editions hosted established figures such as writer Ayi Hillah as guest of honor in 2019

04

The water draws everyone in

Because founder Steve Bodjona built the fair through his own literary club rather than a state ministry, FI2L retains a grassroots, author-led character uncommon among national book fairs in the region
