Divali Nagar in Chaguanas
Divali Nagar, City of Divali, is Trinidad and Tobago's largest annual exposition of Hindu and Indo-Trinidadian culture, staged for about a week before Divali at a permanent site in Chaguanas. It began in a mall car park in 1986 and has grown into the most significant Indian cultural event in the Caribbean.
Divali Nagar started small and improvised: a gathering in the car park of the Mid Centre Mall in late 1986, organised as an exposition of Hindu and Indo-Trinidadian culture timed to Divali, the Hindu festival of lights.
