Tobago Carnival in Scarborough/Tobago
Tobago Carnival is a standalone masquerade festival centered on Scarborough, Tobago's capital, formally established in October by the Tobago House of Assembly as a distinct celebration deliberately scheduled outside Trinidad's traditional pre-Lenten Carnival window to give the sister island its own dedicated tourism draw and carnival identity.
Tobago has long existed somewhat in the shadow of Trinidad's world-famous Carnival, the smaller sister island's own celebrations historically folded into or overshadowed by the much larger February or March festivities centered on Port of Spain.
