International Festival of Dougga in Dougga

The International Festival of Dougga stages music and theater performances inside the second-century Roman theatre of Dougga, a UNESCO World Heritage Site recognized as North Africa's best-preserved Roman small town, blending ancient architecture with contemporary performance each summer. Reaching its 49th edition in 2025, it pairs the ancient stage with regional food stalls.

The International Festival of Dougga takes place inside one of the most remarkable Roman ruins in North Africa: the theatre of Dougga, built between 168 and 169 AD in what is now northwestern Tunisia, and still capable of seating more than 3,500 spectators nearly two thousand years after its construction.

01

The place changes

Few festival venues can match the archaeological pedigree of Dougga's Roman theatre, built between 168 and 169 AD and still capable of seating more than 3,500 spectators, ranking among the best-preserved Roman theatres anywhere in North Africa within a site UNESCO designated a World Heritage property in 1997

02

The mystery stays covered

Having reached its 49th edition by 2025, the festival has run for roughly half a century, pairing performances on the ancient stage with food stalls serving traditional dishes from Tunisia's northwest region, giving visitors a combined historical, musical, and culinary experience inside a still largely intact Roman townscape
