The story

FIFAK Kelibia Amateur Film Festival in Kelibia

FIFAK, the Festival International du Film Amateur de Kelibia, is Tunisia's oldest film event, founded in 1964 in the Cap Bon coastal town of Kelibia. Organized by the Federation Tunisienne des Cinéastes Amateurs with backing from the Ministry of Cultural Affairs, its 38th edition ran August 16-23, 2025, screening work across multiple amateur competition categories.

Before Tunisia had a national film festival circuit of any scale, it had FIFAK.

What is special

The part that makes it specific.

01

The place changes

Founded in 1964, FIFAK predates every other major Tunisian film festival, including the Carthage Film Festival, making it the country's longest-running cinema event and a rare surviving amateur-focused festival at that scale anywhere in the region

02

The mystery stays covered

Its structure reflects its amateur origins and mission: rather than one general competition, FIFAK runs parallel International, FTCA National, Independents and Schools, Screenplay, and Photography competitions, giving young and non-professional filmmakers multiple distinct paths to recognition

03

The city starts moving

Several filmmakers who built international careers passed through FIFAK early on, and the festival's continuous run since the 1960s, through periods of significant political change in Tunisia, gives it a institutional continuity matched by few other Tunisian cultural events
