Carthage Poetry Days in Tunis
Carthage Poetry Days, or Journees Poetiques de Carthage, launched in March 2018 at the Cite de la Culture in Tunis under the theme celebration of poetry, celebration of life. Conceived to match the prestige of the long-running Carthage Film and Theatre Days, the festival brings Arab and international poets together for readings, conferences, and workshops, with a second edition following in March 2019.
Tunisia's two most famous Carthage festivals, the biennial Journees Cinematographiques de Carthage for film and the Journees Theatrales de Carthage for theatre, have shaped the country's cultural calendar for decades, but poetry, despite Tunisia's strong modern literary tradition anchored by the national poet Abou El Kacem Chebbi, had no equivalent national stage.
