Carthage Puppetry Arts Days in Tunis

Carthage Puppetry Arts Days, known locally as the Journees des Arts de la Marionnette de Carthage, brings puppet theatre companies from around the world to Tunis each winter. Staged at the Cite de la Culture, the event mixes staged performances, street shows, and workshops, with the sixth edition in February 2025 dedicated to the memory of Tunisian puppetry pioneer Abdelhaq Khemir.

Puppet theatre in Tunisia carries an old, largely unwritten history of touring performers, shadow shows, and glove puppets used to entertain and sometimes gently satirize, passed down through families and small troupes rather than institutions.
