The story

Konya Culture Road Festival in Konya

The Konya Culture Road Festival is the local name for the Ministry of Culture and Tourism's inclusion of the Uluslararasi Konya Mistik Muzik Festivali, International Konya Mystic Music Festival, in the national Turkiye Kultur Yolu Festivali. The 19th edition ran from 22 September, centered on Konya's identity as the city of Mevlana and Sufi music.

Long before the Ministry of Culture and Tourism began folding city festivals into its national Turkiye Kultur Yolu Festivali, Konya already had one of Turkey's most distinctive annual events: the Uluslararasi Konya Mistik Muzik Festivali, the International Konya Mystic Music Festival, built around the legacy of Mevlana Jalal ad-Din Rumi, the thirteenth-century poet and mystic whose tomb and former lodge sit at the heart of the city.

What is special

The part that makes it specific.

01

The place changes

This is not a newly invented city festival: it is the long-running, independently numbered Konya Mystic Music Festival, now folded into the Ministry's Turkiye Kultur Yolu Festivali as one of the cities in a given year's national rollout

02

The mystery stays covered

The 19th edition centered its fourth day around Tasavvuf, Irfan ve Meydan, Sufism, Wisdom and the Public Square, programming that draws on Konya's status as the city where the thirteenth-century poet and mystic Mevlana Jalal ad-Din Rumi lived, taught and is buried, and where the Mevlevi order of whirling dervishes originated
