Seb-i Arus Mevlana Commemoration in Konya
Seb-i Arus is Konya's annual commemoration of the 13th-century Sufi mystic and poet Mevlana Jalaluddin Rumi, held December 7-17 each year and centered on December 17, the anniversary of his death, understood in Sufi tradition as his wedding night, union with the divine, drawing pilgrims and cultural travelers from across Turkey and abroad each winter.
Konya, once the capital of the Seljuk Sultanate of Rum, is where the 13th-century poet and Sufi mystic Jalaluddin Rumi, known across Turkey simply as Mevlana, our master, spent much of his life, wrote his most influential poetry, and died on December 17, 1273.
