The story

Samsun Culture Road Festival in Samsun

The Samsun Culture Road Festival is Samsun's stop on the national Turkiye Kultur Yolu Festivali, held in the city where Mustafa Kemal Ataturk landed on 19 May 1919 to launch the Turkish War of Independence. The 2026 edition was the city's third time hosting, built around gastronomy, concerts and the city's role in Turkey's founding history.

Every Turkish schoolchild learns the date 19 May 1919, when Mustafa Kemal Ataturk stepped off a ship in Samsun and began organizing the resistance that would become the Turkish War of Independence.

What is special

The part that makes it specific.

01

The place changes

Samsun holds a distinct place in Turkey's national memory as the starting point of the Milli Mucadele, the War of Independence, and the festival leans into that identity alongside a strong food program

02

The mystery stays covered

A recent edition mapped out 44 Lezzet Noktasi, Flavor Points, across the city, turning a dedicated festival evening into a citywide tasting trail of Black Sea coastal cuisine

03

The city starts moving

The seventh stop on the Ministry's 2026 national calendar, Samsun's edition combines this historical gravity with concerts and contemporary art programming aimed at a broad public rather than a single niche audience
