The story

Uganda Film Festival in Kampala

The Uganda Film Festival (UFF) is an annual government-organized festival run by the Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) to promote Uganda's film industry through training workshops, film forums, nationwide screenings, and an awards gala night. The 13th edition, themed Transformation: The Power of Local Stories, ran nationwide screenings from May 25 to June 4, 2026, with the wider gala programme scheduled for August 21-28, 2026.

The Uganda Film Festival was established by the Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) as an annual, government-organized platform to promote the country's film industry, structured around a year-round cycle rather than a single event weekend.

What is special

The part that makes it specific.

01

The place changes

What distinguishes the Uganda Film Festival from a typical film showcase is its direct government backing and industry-development mandate: rather than existing purely to screen films, it is built around a year-round programme of technical skilling workshops, distribution and commercialization forums, and a submissions process run through FilmFreeway open to Ugandan, East African, and international filmmakers

02

The mystery stays covered

Its 2026 edition placed more than 50 Ugandan films into major commercial cinema halls across Kampala and other parts of the country over a ten-day nationwide screening run, explicitly aimed at getting local stories in front of paying, mainstream audiences rather than festival-only crowds, before culminating in a competitive awards Gala Night
