Porto Franko in Ivano-Frankivsk
Porto Franko is a major international literature and arts festival held in Ivano-Frankivsk, western Ukraine, drawing its name from the city's historic free-trade port status under Austro-Hungarian rule. It brings together writers, translators, musicians and visual artists for multi-day readings, discussions and performances across the city.
Ivano-Frankivsk is an unlikely literary capital by most conventional measures: a regional city in western Ukraine, historically known under its Habsburg-era name Stanislawow, without the population or infrastructure of Kyiv or Lviv.
