The story

Lviv International BookForum in Lviv

Book Forum Lviv, known until 2018 as the Publishers' Forum, is Ukraine's largest book fair and literary festival, held every September in Lviv since 1994. Centered on the Palace of Arts near the Potocki Palace and spilling onto Prospekt Svobody, it has grown from a modest 1994 gathering into an event that has hosted more than 2,500 authors from 43 countries under the motto Amor librorum nos unit, love of books unites us.

Book Forum Lviv began in September 1994 as the Publishers' Forum in Lviv, staged at the Lviv National Museum's Sheptytskyi Scientific-Art Fund with support from the International Renaissance Foundation and Ukraine's newly formed Association of Publishers and Booksellers.

What is special

The part that makes it specific.

01

The place changes

Few book fairs anywhere carry a logo designed around snails, but Book Forum Lviv's emblem, two snails supporting a book with their shells, was chosen deliberately to symbolize endurance, rebirth, and slow but steady progress, themes that have suited a festival that started in 1994 as a response to the collapse of Ukraine's book trade in the early 1990s

02

The mystery stays covered

Modeled loosely on the Warsaw International Book Fair, it grew from a single 1994 gathering at the Lviv National Museum into Eastern Europe's biggest event of its kind, drawing more than 10,000 out-of-town visitors annually and building thematic clusters each year around subjects ranging from war and media to science, philosophy, and travel
