Al Burda Festival in Abu Dhabi
Al Burda Festival, founded in 2004 under the UAE Ministry of Culture, has grown from a poetry-focused award into a broader Islamic arts and culture festival spanning exhibitions, performances, panel talks and a dedicated calligraphy exhibition, with a recent award round drawing more than 1,300 submissions from roughly fifty countries around a specific annual theme drawn from Islamic scholarship.
More than 1,300 submissions from roughly fifty countries competed for a recent Al Burda Award, a scale that has turned what launched in 2004 as a poetry-focused prize into what organisers now describe explicitly as a festival rather than an award alone.
