Birmingham Pride in Birmingham

The UK's largest two-day gay pride festival, held each Spring Bank Holiday weekend in Birmingham's Gay Village since its official 1997 launch by founders Bill Gavan and Phil Oldershaw. Its history traces back to the city's first Gay Pride Weekend in July 1972, with a dedicated parade added to the modern festival's programme in 2000.

Birmingham's Pride tradition traces back to 8 and 9 July 1972, when the city's Gay Liberation Front staged the first Birmingham Gay Pride Weekend, just a week after London held its own first Gay Pride Rally, with activities including leafleting at the Bull Ring shopping centre, a march to the Town Hall, and a gathering at Cannon Hill Park.
