St Paul's Carnival Bristol in Bristol

St Paul's Carnival fills Bristol's St Paul's neighbourhood on the first Saturday of July with a masquerade procession, sound systems and Caribbean food stalls. Founded in 1968 as a multicultural community festival and reshaped into a Trinidadian-style carnival from 1979, the event has weathered repeated funding crises and community-led revivals over its history.

St Paul's Carnival began in 1968 as the St Paul's Festival, organised by the St Paul's and Environs Consultative Committee and the West Indian Development Association together with Bristol's first community development worker, Carmen Beckford, with the explicit aim of improving relations between the area's European, African, Caribbean and Asian residents.
