BFI Flare London LGBTQIA+ Film Festival in London

Europe's largest LGBTQIA+ film festival, held each spring at BFI Southbank since beginning as a small two-year season of gay and lesbian cinema in 1986. Renamed the London Lesbian and Gay Film Festival in 1988 and rebranded again as BFI Flare in 2014, it reflects four decades of continuous queer film programming in London.

BFI Flare began in 1986 as a modest two-year season of gay and lesbian cinema at the National Film Theatre, titled Gay's Own Pictures and curated by Peter Packer of the Tyneside Cinema, at a time when LGBTQ film programming had almost no visible place within Britain's mainstream festival calendar.
