Lord Mayor's Show London in London
Dating back to 1215, when the City of London first won the right to elect its own mayor on condition the new mayor present himself publicly each year, the Lord Mayor's Show now fills the City's streets each November with a procession of marching bands, military units, and themed floats escorting the newly elected Lord Mayor in a gilded eighteenth-century state coach, closing with Thames fireworks.
The Lord Mayor's Show traces its origin to 1215, the same year King John sealed Magna Carta, when the City of London was granted the right to elect its own mayor annually on condition that the newly chosen mayor travel to present himself before the monarch each year.
