Wigtown Book Festival in Wigtown
Scotland's National Book Town runs a ten-day literary festival each autumn that spreads across Wigtown's county buildings, theatre and churches, alongside more than a dozen secondhand bookshops that earned the town its designation. Author talks, poetry and children's events sit alongside the shops themselves, giving book buying as much weight as any ticketed session.
Wigtown earned the title of Scotland's National Book Town after a competitive bid process modelled on Hay-on-Wye in Wales, and the town launched its own literary festival soon after to give that designation an annual centrepiece.
