The story

Iowa Renaissance Festival in Amana

Iowa Renaissance Festival is a Renaissance and medieval-themed faire held over two weekends each spring and two more each fall at Middle Amana Community Park, branded on-site as Medici Grove. Running since 1992 and now Iowa's longest-running Renaissance festival, it features jousting, stage combat, and an artisan marketplace of roughly 144 merchants.

Iowa Renaissance Festival traces its roots to 1992, when Festival International launched a Renaissance-themed faire at the North Iowa Fairgrounds in Clear Lake, Iowa.

What is special

The part that makes it specific.

01

The place changes

Unlike the three other Amana-area festivals, all rooted in the colonies' German heritage, this is a Renaissance and medieval fantasy fair with no direct connection to Amana's actual settlement history, distinguishing it sharply from Oktoberfest, Maifest, and Wurst Festival held elsewhere in the village

02

The mystery stays covered

Its artisan marketplace of up to 144 merchants selling handmade corsets, blades, jewelry, and leather armor gives it a genuinely deep craft-vendor base, while horseback jousting and stage combat performances provide the theatrical centerpiece

03

The city starts moving

Running across two separate weekend blocks each spring and fall, including a fall weekend themed Gathering o' Celts, it has operated continuously since 1992, making it Iowa's longest-running Renaissance festival
